ABOUT
The Clean Coast Collective is an Australian not-for-profit that focuses on cleaning up Australia's remote beaches and shifting mainstream behaviour away from disposable plastics. Their Trash Tribe expeditions take groups of young surfers, creatives and environmentalists on two week journeys to clean up remote beaches devastated by marine debris and ocean pollution. The 2015 Trash Tribe took a group to remote Chilli Beach on the Cape York Peninsula, where they removed over 3.1 tonnes of trash from a single 6km stretch of beach.
Through creative and engaging communications campaigns, they shift consumer consciousness to recognise the devastating effects of plastics on our environment and oceans, encouraging a lifestyle that ditches unncecessary plastics - this is the #cleancoastlife.
The Clean Coast Collective is the brainchild of Natalie & Dan, a rad & dedicated young couple we met this year who currently live, work and play in the Northern NSW region.
THE FUNDING GOAL - in Nat's words:
After the inaugural Trash Tribe expedition to Cape York in 2015,we plan to roll out more clean up expeditions in 2017. The new expeditions will take us back to Cape York to continue our partnership with Tangaroa Blue and, if funding allows, we will also add new remote destinations to our schedule. Our bucket list for new destinations include the Abrolhos Islands off the coast of WA, Lord Howe Island and Christmas Island - all of these locations, while well known for their natural beauty, are all greatly impacted from marine debirs. Lord Howe Island, an important nesting ground for seabirds, is being devastated by ocean pollution, not only plastics washing ashore but also from nesting mothers mistaking plastics at sea for food and bringing it back to the island to feed to their chicks.
As with the first Trash Tribe expedition, participants will each conduct their own project in their home communities to share their experience with their peers and in turn, spreading awareness and knowledge of marine debris across Australia.
