Sea Together is an annual, creative print publication featuring the voices and creativity of women surfers around the world. The team are raising money to print Issue 001: 8.5" x 11" inches, full color, and 100 pages printed on 100% recycled paper.
Issue 001 is 100 pages uniting the voices, stories, and expression of women surfers, and oftentimes, voices or expression not normally found elsewhere. That is why this platform is needed.
About Sea Together
Our current goal is to have an independent publication to rewrite, unite, and highlight women's surf culture through art, writing, and community. We want to focus on surfing. All our contributors are actual surfers. We value boldness, authenticity, vulnerability, and creativity. We want to transcend boundaries placed upon women surfers in our worldwide patriarchal surf culture.
Our current mission is to empower women surfers worldwide to live as their authentic self and to rise above societal or personal challenges. We celebrate our love for surfing through creative expression, connecting through community, and sharing our individual voices. We believe there is a space for every woman surfer to express themselves and share their voice.
Our Kickstarter campaign is currently raising money to print our first issue and ship it worldwide.
Radical women surfers have been inspiring others, making waves in communities, and pursuing creative expression around the globe! We want to be your space for your voice to be heard! For your story to be shared! For your art to be expressed! We believe there is more than one narrative for what a woman surfer should be or how she should look like. Our magazine focuses on being bold, authentic, creative, and allowing a safe haven for women surfers to express themselves in the way that they want to.
We hope to be your platform with your support to raise money to print. We want to form a global community for women surfers to unite and be inspired by each other, and to inspire future generations of women to surf, to be themselves, to have fun, and to be bold--together!
About the Founder
Brianna is an artist, 3rd generation surfer, MFA candidate, Colitis/Autoimmune Disease survivor and advocate, and environmental educator from Southern California and Hawai'i, but is now based out of the Pacific Northwest of the United States.
She created this project with one goal in mind--to do something different in surf culture and make a more inclusive women's surf magazine that isn't just about marketing and bikini butt shots. She wanted to learn more about the inspiring women surfers around the world in new ways that she had not seen in mainstream surf media or even in a magazine.
Brianna believes that the tides are changing and that there is a new generation of women surfers rising up to defy the previous standards set before them and to challenge hierarchical power structures within the media to collaborate with each other through positivity and creativity. She believes that all individuals one day will be equal and have equal representation in surf culture everywhere, and that it will be normal to see diversity in the water.
But, it will take us to get there. Every one of us creating community and change worldwide makes a difference and if this magazine inspires just one person, or one young girl, then it will be something worthwhile. Please support our Kickstarter campaign if you believe in our vision, or share it with your friends.
